Secret Sins (2 Kings 17:9)

2 Kings 17:9

New Living Translation (NLT)

The people of Israel had also secretly done many things that were not pleasing to the Lord their God. They built pagan shrines for themselves in all their towns, from the smallest outpost to the largest walled city.

Ruin came upon Israel for both their public sins and their secret sins. Not only did they condone wickedness and idolatry in public, but they committed even worse sins in private. Secret sins are the ones we don't want others to know about because they are embarrassing or incriminating. Sin done in private are not secret to God, and defiance to Him is just as damaging as open rebellion.
