2 Samuel 12:13-14
New Living Translation (NLT)
David Confesses His Guilt
13 Then David confessed to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”
Nathan replied, “Yes, but the Lord has forgiven you, and you won’t die for this sin. 14 Nevertheless, because you have shown utter contempt for the Lord by doing this, your child will die.”David confessed and repented of his sin, but God's judgment was that his child would die. The consequences of David's sin were irreversible. Sometimes an apology isn't enough. When God forgives us and restores our relationship with Him, He doesn't eliminate all the consequences of our wrongdoing. We may be tempted to say, "if this is wrong, I can always apologize to God," but we must remember that we may set into motion events with irreversible consequences.
